Zane Placie for Fulton County Soil and Water District Supervisor

On November 3, Fulton County will have a choice for the first time in at least a decade.

Every two years, the voters of Fulton County trudge to the polls to cast their vote for Fulton County Soil and Water District Supervisor, a position that they have almost certainly never heard of or thought about at all since the previous election. Luckily for them, no thought is required; everyone who has run for that office since at least 2018 (the earliest year for which I could find results) has done so unopposed. So, unless you write in yourself, or Santa Claus, you vote for who you’re told and don’t ask any questions.

It’s time that someone reminded the supervisors that they are an elected body accountable to the people, not a social club for conservationists. If you go to the website for the Fulton County Soil and Water Conservation District, and try to follow the link to see the minutes for their previous meetings, you will find that the link is broken. If you fill out the contact form to request them, no one will respond to you. At least, no one responded to me.

…But seriously, what is the point of this election, if the resources required to make an informed decision are so obscure and difficult to access?

Like you, I do not really know what the Fulton County Soil and Water District Supervisors do either, although I think it is mostly to do with distributing grant money and generally annoying property owners. But that is precisely why I must run; to find out what they are doing.
